Attorney-General, Robert McClelland, today launched the Australian Government's Critical Infrastructure Resilience Strategy. Improving the resilience of our critical infrastructure requires more than the efforts of individual organisations. The Strategy builds on the previous Critical Infrastructure Protection Program and has been developed with key stakeholders, including Critical Infrastructure Advisory Council members, State and Territory Governments as well as owners and operators of critical infrastructure.

The Gillard Government will continue to support self-funded retirees by extending the drawdown relief currently provided for account-based superannuation pensions to the 2010-11 year. Drawdown relief over the past two years has helped retirees with account-based pensions by reducing the need to sell assets at a loss in order to meet the minimum payment requirement. Extending the drawdown relief for a further year will help retirees to recoup capital losses on their pension portfolios as equity markets recover over time.

Assistant Treasurer, Senator Nick Sherry, today released for public consultation a paper on reforms to the goods and services tax (GST) financial supply provisions. 'These changes will also work to protect the GST base.'. 'The changes will apply from 1 July 2012 and I urge interested parties to provide feedback on the design of these financial supply measures,' said the Assistant Treasurer.

Parliamentary Secretary for Health Mark Butler today announced the phase out by major retailers of baby bottles containing Bisphenol A (BPA). A number of countries have responded to consumer concern and the FDA's announcement about BPA by introducing voluntary withdrawals of BPA baby bottles from the market. 'The Australian Government appreciates there has been a level of public concern relating to BPA in baby bottles and, as such, has worked extensively with retailers to introduce the phase out.
