Minister for Ageing Justine Elliot and New South Wales Minister for Ageing and Disability Services Peter Primrose today announced more than $28 million for Home and Community Care (HACC) services in New South Wales. HACC is a joint Australian and NSW Government initiative that delivers affordable and accessible community care to help meet the individual needs of older people, people with a disability and their carers. Minister Elliot said: 'This funding will deliver the practical support and assistance that allow older people and people with disabilities to remain independent, in their own homes and communities, close to friends and family for as long as they can.

The Minister for Health and Ageing, Nicola Roxon today used World No Tobacco Day to announce that the Rudd Government will provide $5 million to help support Quitline services around Australia. Since the release of these tough tobacco measures there has been an increased demand for Quitline services - including reports that calls to the Quitline have doubled. Funding for Quitline will help support increased demand for services.

The Minister for Education, Julia Gillard, today told the Parliament that if elected, the Leader of the Opposition, Tony Abbott, would strip 120 000 computers from our schools as part of his slash and burn education policy. New figures show that as at 31 May, the Government has funded 696 000 computers for schools. Ms Gillard reminded the Parliament of the woeful record in government of the Liberal Party who in 11 years left Australian schools with only 210 000 computers less than four years old for those students.

The Resale Royalty Right for Visual Artists Act 2009 establishes the right for visual artists to receive five per cent of the sale price when works are resold through the art market for $1000 or more.
