QLD SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA TO RESIDE WITH THE ABC. ABC Chairman Maurice Newman AC today welcomed the announcement by the Federal and Queensland Governments to fund the co-location of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra with the ABC at its new Brisbane headquarters in South Bank. Both the ABC and the Orchestra will fit comfortably on the South Bank site, with accommodation for the wide range of ABC services together with accommodation and rehearsal facilities for upwards of 100 Orchestra staff and musicians.

The Fifth Regional Interfaith Dialogue concludes in Perth today, Friday 30 October. The Fifth Regional Interfaith Dialogue is co-sponsored by Australia, Indonesia, New Zealand and the Philippines. The Perth Dialogue follows on from a positive history of regional Dialogues: Phnom Penh Dialogue in Cambodia in 2008, the Waitangi Dialogue in New Zealand in 2007, the Cebu Dialogue in the Philippines in 2006, and the Yogyakarta Dialogue in Indonesia in 2004.

An independent marine scientists' report into the environmental effects of the Montara oil spill says a systematic, long-term monitoring effort is the only way to ascertain the true impacts of the spill on the region's biodiversity. Water sampling and other environmental monitoring also continues in the region of the oil spill but as I have said repeatedly I remain very concerned about this spill and the long term impacts on the environment. However I am determined that the environmental impacts of this spill are properly assessed and the long term monitoring plan I have commissioned will help ensure that happens.
