The draft report makes recommendations on a number of issues. The Government is determined to ensure that executive pay practices are in line with both community standards as well as sustainable business practices, and today's draft report is a key part of that commitment.

Department of Health & Ageing -Free Pandemic Flu Vaccine Available For All

Today Australia will embark on what is potentially the biggest vaccination program in its history, offering free pandemic (swine flu) vaccine to every person in the country. The average age of Australian deaths from pandemic influenza is 51 years. There is also a chance of the pandemic flu returning as a more virulent disease.

Department of Health & Ageing -AIHW Reports Health Funding Rise Under Rudd Government

A new report from Australian Institute of Health and Welfare shows that after years of decline, the Commonwealth Government's share of total health funding increased from 42.0% in 2006-07 to 43.2% in 2007-08, as a result of the Rudd Government's increases in health funding. In particular, the Rudd Government's increases to public hospital funding in the 2007-08 financial year have begun to reverse the decade-long trend of declining total health funding under the Howard Government. Increased funding to relieve pressure points in our hospital system is one of the ways the Rudd Government has acted to improve the health system.

$1.69 million to help small business become more family friendly

The Minister for Employment & Workplace Relations, Julia Gillard, today announced that 258 Australian small businesses will share in $1.69 million worth of grants to help them become more family friendly. The Government's $12 million Fresh Ideas for Work and Family program is an election commitment and was designed to encourage and support small businesses in developing innovative solutions to the work and family challenge. The first round of Fresh Ideas for Work and Family will help support small businesses with grants of up to $15 000 to set up family friendly arrangements in their workplaces.
