Visit to Australia by Kenyan Minister for Foreign Affairs – Media release – The Hon Stephen Smith MP, Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs

AUSTRALIAN MINISTER FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS. Kenya's Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Moses Wetang'ula, is visiting Australia from Thursday 11 to Tuesday 16 June. It is the first official bilateral visit to Australia by a Kenyan Foreign Minister.

Australia to Join United Nations Anti-Piracy Fight – Media release – The Hon Stephen Smith MP, Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs

AUSTRALIAN MINISTER FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS. Australia will provide $500,000, as well as skills and expertise, to the Joint European Commission/United Nations Office of Drugs and Crimes (UNODC) Counter Piracy Program to assist Kenyan authorities in receiving and processing apprehended piracy suspects. Australia will provide an official through the Office of the Inspector of Transport Security and the Australian Federal Police to work with the UNODC in the Nairobi Office in Kenya on dealing with piracy in the region.

Humanitarian relief for displaced people in Pakistan – Media release – The Hon Stephen Smith MP, Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs

AUSTRALIAN MINISTER FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS. Renewed fighting between Pakistan Government forces and militants has displaced more than a million people in the North West Frontier Province and Federally Administered Tribal Areas. Todays commitment builds on $6 million provided for humanitarian relief and recovery in North West Pakistan in March 2009 and August 2008.

Australia leading the region’s fight against H1N1 Influenza 09 – The Hon Stephen Smith MP, Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs

AUSTRALIAN MINISTER FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS. Australia will provide $3 million to the World Health Organisation (WHO) to fight H1N1 Influenza 09 (Human Swine Influenza). However as countries review their preparedness to meet the challenges posed by H1N1 Influenza 09, further work is required.

50th anniversary of Antarctic Treaty – Media release – The Hon Stephen Smith MP, Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs

AUSTRALIAN MINISTER FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS. Representing the Australian Government at the event, Environment Minister Peter Garrett said Australia was also very pleased to announce that it will host the 2012 Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting (ATCM). Foreign Minister Stephen Smith said since its inception the Treaty has been bolstered by associated agreements, including a Convention for the conservation of marine living resources, and a Protocol which provides for the comprehensive environmental protection of Antarctica, and a ban on mining.
